Third party applications and systems seamlessly 'plug in' to Niche COMS. The software supports a number of modern data exchange standards, including OLE DB, COM and XML, making it easy to interface with other police systems, such as AFIS. External documents and data such as external reports, statements, diagrams, etc. can be stored in COMS. Any document, including word processor documents, TIFF files, etc. can be stored as long as an OLE-compliant viewer program is available. Niche COMS integrates fully with the Microsoft Office suite. For example, you can transmit or retrieve documents, pictures and files over a network or the Internet using Microsoft Outlook or a number of other standard e-mail tools. Exchanging data with other people or organizations is a simple matter of selecting the desired information in COMS and then dragging and dropping it into an e-mail message. You can also use a variety of other standard desktop applications and database query tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access), to aid in statistical analysis, or to create special-purpose reports. The system enforces all data access restrictions and security for users accessing Niche COMS using third-party tools. Statistical reporting is incorporated into COMS to simplify the process of submitting data to state, provincial, or federal agencies. State, provincial, and federal databases can be accessed will be available through COMS to authorized personnel. This allows offenders' criminal records and outstanding warrants to be queried. You can also check the criminal records of visitors to improve institutional security. Statistical and management reports, such as case load analysis, are a standard part of Niche COMS. Employee information includes course and training history, certifications (e.g., First Aid, CPR), security classification, assigned offender cases, and incidents.
