Niche Technology's Corrections Offender Management System (COMS) is a versatile, easy-to-use tool that improves both the efficiency and the effectiveness of corrections record-keeping and information sharing.
Goals of the COMS system include:
- improved communications by providing a common database for youth, adult, custody, and community corrections data
- reduced paperwork, particularly the redundant entry of information
- improved record keeping
- improved program evaluation, statistical analysis, and management information
- integration with other justice initiatives to provide data exchange among police, courts, and corrections, within and between jurisdictions
|
Easy to use. Any user with basic Windows® skills can quickly become productive with the Niche COMS system. The familiar Windows graphical user interface (GUI) allows users to take advantage of techniques already learned by using other Windows-based software, reducing the training time required for new or casual users, and increasing training material retention.
Easy search and navigation. The system allows users to search for and locate specific database items quickly and then to follow links to related information. Because you can perform searches quickly and easily, based on single fields, complex data combinations or text narrative content, the system becomes a routine investigative tool. The user interface is flat, rather than hierarchical, meaning that there is no need for users to back out, or return to a main menu to pursue an interesting lead. The result is easier navigation and better investigative use of available information.
| The Corrections Case window represents a corrections case, either in custody, on probation, or both. Automatic sentence calculation can be used to determine sentence length and expiry dates. |
